About

Homeworld 2 is the third game in the Homeworld series. Although well-received and praised for its lavish graphics, Homeworld 2 did not receive the same level of acclaim as Homeworld 1 or Cataclysm. Patches and an active modding community has helped keep Homeworld 2 popular until its re-release by Gearbox Software in 2015.

Frequently asked questions

Can I play Homeworld 2 on PC, Mac or Linux?
The original release already runs natively on Windows and macOS. There is no known port for Linux yet. Windows builds can run on Linux through Wine or Proton, but that is not a native port.
Do I need the original game?
Your own copy of Homeworld 2 is still required. The projects rebuild only the code, and the art, audio and levels come from the copy you already own.
Is there a decompilation of Homeworld 2?
Homeworld 2 Classic Decomplication is a decompilation of Homeworld 2. It turns the original machine code back into readable source, the groundwork most native ports are built on, but not something you play on its own.
Is anyone working on a port of Homeworld 2?
Nobody has published one on RecompHub yet. Games people want that still have no port are listed under What to work on next.
