About

Hailed by many as a masterpiece, this remake of the first entry in the long-running Resident Evil series is now playable in HD. Experience true terror in this genre-launching survival horror classic. The year is 1998. The Bravo Team of S.T.A.R.S., an elite special forces squad, has gone radio silent, and its Alpha Team has been dispatched to the forest on the outskirts of Raccoon City to investigate this mysterious disappearance. Attacked by bizarre and vicious dogs, alpha team members Chris and Jill manage to escape to a mysterious mansion in the middle of the forest. The horrors they encounter there are far greater than anyone might have foreseen...

Frequently asked questions

Can I play Resident Evil on PC, Mac or Linux?
The original release already runs natively on Windows. There is no known port for macOS and Linux yet. Windows builds can run on Linux through Wine or Proton, but that is not a native port.
Do I need the original game?
You need your own copy of Resident Evil. Projects rebuild the game's code, not its art, audio or levels, so they read those from the copy you already own.
Is there a decompilation of Resident Evil?
Resident Evil 1 for PC Decompilation is a decompilation of Resident Evil. It turns the original machine code back into readable source, the groundwork most native ports are built on, but not something you play on its own.
Is anyone working on a port of Resident Evil?
Nobody has published one on RecompHub yet. Games people want that still have no port are listed under What to work on next.
